Embracing fear and uncertainty.
It’s been an interesting time.
Following my recent travel adventure, I have returned to Brisbane to have had my life trajectory — largely, by my own initiation — thrown into uncertainty and disarray. After a great deal of soul-searching over long period of time, I have come to acknowledge areas of both my personal and professional life that are no longer truly optimised for my long-term-happiness, or that of the people I love. With this knowledge, I have chosen to indefinitely set aside my feelings of short-term comfort, familiarity and safety in order to strive for something far more important:

I love coming home after an international adventure. It always feels like a new start.
…and I feel like something exciting is coming.
Over the last five weeks, I have had the opportunity to afternoon adventure in some pretty damn phenomenal places. But when it comes down to it, this well-trodden, 2-hour walking route in the northern suburbs of Brisbane, Australia is really just as good.
It’s great to be home.

‘The Burglars’ by Animal Collective plays in my ears. Everyone on this flight (Calgary, Canada to Portland, USA) seems to be asleep already, but I can barely sit still. Waiting for the captain to switch off the seat-belt sign so I can retrieve my laptop and start writing is too much. iPhone notes it is.
It seems fitting that I would be writing this post on the way to my final and most important destination of this whole travel adventure. In fact, this particular destination is the reason the whole adventure happened at all. Continue reading
Each one of us contains an endless, immeasurable supply of magic. There is a creative fire in all of us; if you are human and alive, you are creative. Sometimes the fire roars loudly, impossible to contain. Other times, it is barely a flicker. But it never goes out; it cannot go out.
It is this fire—this creative force within us all— that the world is always crying out for. The difficulty is that that flame can be shy, and elusive. The search for the fire within us is rarely an easy one. Continue reading
